“I believe that each one of us is here to discover our gifts and talents and use those gifts to enhance the lives of others.”

My exposure to Chiropractic care began at an early age. Growing up in Holyoke, MA youth sports were a huge part of my life. I remember being 12 and fielding a ground ball during baseball practice. As I twisted and threw to first I felt a sharp pain and intense spasm through my lower back. After several days of using heating pads and getting no where, my father brought me to a chiropractor. Within a few adjustments I was back to the ball field pain free. After completing a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at The University of Vermont in 1999, I enrolled in chiropractic school. In 2003 I graduated Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C. and began working in Saugus, MA for a wonderful mentor.

My wife Colleen and I married in 2004 and a year later we opened our office in Salisbury, MA. Our work over the past 6 years has been tremendously rewarding as we have assisted people in improving their quality of life and finding better, healthier ways to live.

I am a member of the International Chiropractors Association (ICA), and I recently served on a committee through the ICA to establish a new set of practice guidelines for the chiropractic profession (ICA Best Practices and Practice Guidelines)

I use a variety of chiropractic techniques to accommodate my patients’ needs including manual adjustments, myofacial (muscular) therapy, spinal corrective exercises, and spinal corrective traction. My chiropractic specialty is in a field of chiropractic called Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP), and I am 1 of 7 chiropractors in Massachusetts certified to use this technique.

The CBP technique is based on the most current scientific research of the structure and function of the spine available. My focus with this work is to determine the deeper causes my patients’ symptoms resulting from the effects that abnormal postures have on the spine over time. Through specific adjustments combined with specific spinal traction and the use postural corrective exercises, true, lasting changes can be made.

Colleen Suchecki, D.C.

“My philosophy is to look at the person as a whole, NOT as just symptoms. Symptoms are signals from the body. My goal is interpret what the body is trying to communicate through the symptom, getting to the root cause of the issue.”

Chiropractic won my heart when I got relief from headaches. I suffered from headaches since I was young, when traditional medical treatments failed, I thought I would just have to live with my headaches. Chiropractic care completely changed my life, it gave me hope when I felt hopeless. After graduating University of Toledo, Ohio with Honors with a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science I set off to chiropractic school. I graduated with Honors from Sherman College of Chiropractic in 2003. After working with a chiropractor in New Bedford, MA for 2 years, Luke and I opened up our own office in Salisbury in 2005.

Life steered me in a new direction in May 2010 when personal circumstances lead to me seeking out new tools to address stress. My journey lead to me to Rodd Stockwell, M.D. Through working with Dr. Stockwell, I learned tools of empowerment such as Holistic Neurology protocols, dream interpretation, and visualizations. I saw such amazing changes in my own life that Dr. Stockwell trained me in how to offer these tools to others. I believe that the situations that are the most stressful in life are opportunities to learn, grow, and change. When the lesson is learned and change occurs, the stress disappears. These tools have resulted in me being a better mom, wife, friend, and living a happier more vibrant life!

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural method of health care with the proven ability to relieve back pain, increase vitality, and promote well-being. For over a century, doctors of chiropractic have successfully helped millions of individuals recover from spine-related health problems. As a result, chiropractic has earned its place as the largest drugless and non-surgical health care profession in the United States.

How does chiropractic work?

The human body possesses a natural ability to restore itself. This ability depends on a healthy nervous system. Life’s events such as car accidents, sports injuries, repetitive work, and life stresses are just some of the factors that can overwhelm the body’s ability to adapt. The joints of the spine ‘lock up’ and shift from their normal alignment when these sorts of events occur. Spinal joint restriction and/or misalignment results in irritation and/or pressure on the spinal nerves muscle and joints.

The resulting symptoms may include pain, loss of range of motion, tenderness, swelling, tingling, numbness, or spasm around the joints of the spine, back, and neck.

Many times these sensations extend further into the shoulders and arms, around the rib cage, or into the hips and down the legs. Spinal misalignments can even lead to headaches, stomach and digestive problems, and loss of overall health. Chiropractic care can correct these misalignments, restoring the body to its optimal form and function.

What conditions do you commonly treat?

Doctors of chiropractic are specially trained in the evaluation and treatment of spinal conditions, which is why an increasing number of back pain sufferers are turning to us for fast, effective, and reliable care. Similarly, more and more hospitals and private practices are now working closely with doctors of chiropractic in order to ensure the best quality of care for patients who suffer from spine-related injuries and dysfunction.

The benefits of chiropractic care have also been shown to extend beyond reduction of back and neck pain. In fact, chiropractic has proven itself as useful in the relief of headaches, dizziness, carpal tunnel syndrome, jaw pain, sciatica, and tingling in the arms and legs. The rewards of chiropractic care are numerous. People under chiropractic care report better health and well-being and many families have realized the benefits of chiropractic care for their children.

Is chiropractic safe?

YES! Its non-surgical, drug-free approach to health places chiropractic among the safest of all health care practices. Remember, chiropractic takes nothing out of the body and puts nothing in. As a result, chiropractors enjoy one of the lowest malpractice rates of all health care professionals. There is no better measure of safety in healthcare than malpractice rates. Furthermore, your initial evaluation at our office involves a number of tests to help insure that chiropractic care will be safe for you.

Like all primary health care providers, doctors of chiropractic undergo extensive education and training before becoming licensed professionals. Students begin by fulfilling undergraduate degree requirements, with a strong emphasis on the core sciences such as chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and physics.

The professional program leading to the Doctor of Chiropractic degree is very demanding. Chiropractic students continue their study of the sciences, including pathology and biochemistry, at a highly detailed level.

Their education continues into the advanced clinical sciences including orthopedics, neurology, examination procedures, differential diagnosis, and X-ray interpretation. During this entire process, aspiring doctors of chiropractic gain knowledge of the philosophy and practice of health care and chiropractic.

Doctors of chiropractic refine their technical adjusting skills in technique classes. During clinical internships student doctors perfect these skills.

Finally, all doctors of chiropractic must pass the rigorous national board exams and state exams before licensure in the field.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Your initial visit will begin with a consultation where we will discuss your present condition.

Next, an examination will be performed to evaluate the nature of your problem. This examination generally includes a series of basic physical tests, as well as a specialized chiropractic evaluation of spinal movement and posture.

If necessary, it may be recommended that X-rays be taken to obtain further information about the position and mechanics of your spine and the health of your spinal joints and discs.

After completing the analysis, a second appointment will be made where we will explain your problem and map out an appropriate plan of action with you.

Sometimes you may be referred to another health care specialist for further evaluation or treatment. Chiropractors work with a variety of health care professionals in the best interest of our patients.

Over the course of your care, we will monitor your individual response and may also recommend changes to your lifestyle, work environment, dietary, and exercise patterns.

How does chiropractic correct my spinal problems?

Following consultation and examination, a program of care will be designed and customized to your specific needs. This program is centered around the chiropractic adjustment. The primary goal of an adjustment is to improve spinal alignment and motion, thereby relieving nerve irritation, pressure, and pain. Specific adjustments may also be performed to correct abnormal posture as well as spinal traction to restore the normal curves of the spine. Treatment may also involve muscular therapy to ease muscle tension and spasms.

You may feel immediate improvement after an adjustment, although most people experience gradual, progressive relief of symptoms. Since adjustments restore motion to previously locked joints, ligaments and tendons begin to stretch back to their normal length. This lengthening may cause slight muscle soreness similar to that brought on by rigorous exercise. If you experience these sensations, be assured that within days you’ll likely be enjoying the benefits of improved spinal motion with less pain that results from a healthier spine. For the best results, follow the plan recommended for you.

How much chiropractic care will I need?

The number of visits depends on the nature of your condition and your personal goals. Many people use chiropractic as part of a preventative health care routine, scheduling chiropractic appointments on a regular basis to keep their bodies functioning at their best. Others seek care and treatment for specific conditions with the primary goal of treatment being pain relief. We’ll discuss your objectives in order to develop a treatment plan that works best for you.

Keep in mind, healing rates vary from person to person. Children tend to respond more quickly to treatment, whereas adults and seniors may respond more slowly. A good rule of thumb is that the longer the spine has not been working properly, the more extensive the care plan may be to achieve desired results.

Is chiropractic care expensive? Will my insurance cover it?

Chiropractic has demonstrated itself to be one of the most cost-effective forms of care in all of the health care market. Many health care plans provide coverage for chiropractic care but plans can vary widely in their coverage. Our staff will be happy to check your health plan’s benefits at the time of your first visit. Many patients pay directly for care, as they discover chiropractic to be extremely cost-effective and affordable. Suchecki Chiropractic and Wellness Center is currently a provider for the following health plans; Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, Tufts, Harvard Pilgrim, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Network Health, and Neighborhood Health.

Misalignment of the spine and poor, abnormal posture over time creates stress and tension on the joints and muscles of the spine and can compress the delicate nerves that exit the spine. The chiropractic adjustment gently restores proper motion to the spine and alleviates the damaging pressure that results from misalignment. Spinal manipulation or adjustments has been used for thousands of years, but only chiropractors are specially trained to identify and correct misalignments.

The methods we utilize:

Clinical Biomechanics of Posture (CBP) Protocols, Diversified, Myofacial Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Pediatric Adjustment, Chiropractic Pregnancy Care

Postural Correction Adjustments:

Just as elite athletes rely on muscle and joint memory to perfect their skill, that same muscle and joint memory can develop from years of repetitive movements such as computer use, texting, or bending and lifting. In time this results in poor, abnormal posture causing damaging pressure and irritation on the spinal joints and muscles. Where chiropractic adjustments free the body of pressure and irritation, the postural correction adjustments and postural corrective therapies that we offer literally retrain the muscles and joints so that they are able to hold a more normal alignment and pattern of motion.

Spinal Corrective Therapy:

As orthodontists use braces to realign teeth into normal alignment, spines that have been damaged through trauma or from repetitive stress, we use specifically targeted spinal traction to restore proper alignment to the spine. Chiropractic traction is much different than the old medical traction that typically comes to mind when you hear the term. Ours is a modern, targeted application that is used during office visits to restore the natural curvatures to the spine and correct abnormal postures.

Postural Corrective Exercises:

We commonly compliment our spinal adjustments with specific postural corrective exercises to strengthen over-stretched and irritated muscles or stretch and release chronically tightened musculature. These exercises are tailored to your unique postural needs and as with any from of exercise, if done properly and consistently, the changes can be powerfully effective.

X-rays may be necessary to view spinal misalignments to ensure the appropriate treatment of your condition. They are taken in our office on a case by case basis. They are often covered through your medical insurance.
